Description

I felt the only location suitable for a darker shot would be a darker location. This shot was taken in an old world war 2 bomb shelter about 30 feet below ground. I felt the model was perfect for the shot. This is by far one of my better shots.

Nice photo. She looks like she is in solitary confinement in a hell hole prison! Ahhh this is the woman in the manip you did. I didnt know you had WW2 bomb shelters in the USA!

Avatar UE-Skateman

 11/27/05 @102

yeah as a matter of fact many places around the US built bomb shelters just in case of a possible attack. Hence duck and cover drills for the previous generation. Its quite common around where i live in New York

The mood is vow!!!

I do agree with Carlos that off-center might work better even though this particular one looks okey as is.

Agree with Andy, it's like something from Midnight Express... Very dark, effective mood. Great overall compostion too. I particularly like the high chroma contrast of hands, legs and feet.

Well done! My max

It is really good...

A little overexposed btw.. But really good!!!

As Carlos said... If you worked a little more on the composition (like putting the model on the corner) it would become even better.

Really good anyways..

+8 :)

Keep it up

I definitely agree with the corner idea, however the shot I took of her in the corner had another object in it, and i don't wanna edit my photos at all, i feel like that deceives the people who I make the art for.

- to tell you the truth, this picture has been done a LOT and i do not see anything new in this photograph that I haven't seen in others.
- it also looks posed, for some reason, so I really don't _feel_ anything looking at it.
- the model doesn't fit the location. her hair is wayyyy too nice looking to fit the scene as well as her clothing... the place is dirty and yet her clothing is so clean and unwrinkled and almost brand new. her feet are also clean though the floor is dirty...hmm....

there's no scene or story in this shot, looks posed.

but i think the overexposure works here. the way the dark swoops in from the left into the middle is nice. i think the most interesting thing is the walls and floor.

 11/28/05 @762

harsh, well I'm gunna have to disagree, i haven't seen to many photographs like this, mabye photo manipulations, however this particular position and location/texture i don't think is played out at all, i also think that the wavy texture of her hair plays quite nicely, anyone can look at something and say yes it's a picture so what, but that would be stupid and nieve, i don't bash your creative ingenuity so lets keep it constructive

Avatar SudnDeath

 11/28/05 @781

lol yeah i thought that was a little harsh myself, buy dont matter its good shot

Avatar starqueen

 11/28/05 @836

UE: I know you disagree, that's why I had a crit in the first place :p. Everything I said was constructive, and I'd suggest to keep rereading over it. I didn't bash your creative ingenuity either, be nice, I meant no harm. I am one of the most honest people here... you messaged on the chat for people to come and vote/crit for you and I did just that, don't get angry.

I have to disagree with Starqueen on this one. Yes, this type of photo may be given a lot of treatment but this is YOUR treatment and I think it's well done. To me there is a strong mood. She doesn't look posed. I'm sure her feet are dirty on the bottom. Her wavy hair looks unkept to me. Perhaps I'd have given her a bit more room to allow us to sense more the room she's in.

Very nice work Kirk.

I love it.
The overexposure is right on. Specially around her legs and arms. That made me think that maybe this would look even better if she was naked or her clothes are torn apart. Seem that would be so very meaningless. Well that's only my humble opinion. Because the texture that coming up from the overexposure is just appealed so beautiful around skin area. But nonetheless the treatment is good. And the idea, maybe similar but definately different approach.

Keep it up Kirk!

Allthough the concept is ok, the execution lacks quality, even if the intention was to give it a real-life feel.

I am sorry to say this, but this is extremely cliché, both the picture in its execution and with the content and composition and all, and the title as well. I don't know how many pictures I have seen that look exactly like this and have the same name, or something similar. It has a certain teenage angst feeling to it.

It is partly over- and partly underexposed as many probably have said already, the tones are uneven and many parts lack detail and tones.
Be careful with the flash, too.

I am sure you could have done much better than that.

I think something like this is all based on interpretation and how it hits you personally. I have read some of the crits and although I can see where they are coming from, I didn't get the same feeling. For instance, I like the fact that her feet are clean and her clothes are not wrinkled. I saw this as a person who has run away from something in her life into this dark place and is in anguish, hiding from something she can't bear to deal with. The room is symbolic of how she is feeling. I could almost imagine her rocking back and forth in fear of what she has to go back to. anyway, I think it's very well done! I do think it would have had a greater impact if she was placed off center to the right though. My only crit :)

I'm not sure the slight overexposure works that well with the pose and the Meaningless idea, I'd guess rather dim lighting would be better for that.
A tad more space on the right would be nice too.
Other than that, i like the idea (and the pose too).
